Everyday realities in Naryab
Alongside the natural setting and agriculture of the valley, Naryab faces ongoing basic service shortages that affect households, schools, and local businesses.
Infrastructure priorities
1. Electricity & Power Outages
Electricity supply from the regional feeder is unpredictable. Daily load shedding interrupts electric drinking pumps, forces flour mills to rely on expensive diesel fuel, and limits study hours for students.
2. Doaba Link Road & Gas Royalties
Although Hangu District produces natural gas for the national network, Naryab lacks domestic gas supply. Funds intended for repairing and widening the twelve kilometer Doaba to Naryab link road have been delayed by regional administrative disputes.
3. Medical Clinics & Maternal Care
The local dispensary provides only basic first aid. With no permanent female doctor or diagnostic equipment in town, patients with serious illnesses or pregnancy emergencies must travel to hospitals in Thall or Hangu.
4. Girls' Secondary Education
While boys can travel to higher institutions in Thall or Kohat, many girls stop formal education after grade 10 because there is no local higher secondary school or degree college for women in Naryab.
Local assemblies and community efforts
Residents engage with district officials through peaceful jirgas and local community groups like Naryab Khabroona. Village elders present memorandums to the district administration regarding road repair and power allocations.
Expatriates working abroad also support local projects: funding water filtration plants, assisting village schools, and installing solar power systems on drinking wells to counter load shedding.
